Local agent says there aren't enough homes to satisfy prospective homeowners who are taking advantage of very low rates.
North Shore home sales continued their upward 2012 trend in November, and are on pace to finish about 30 percent ahead of 2011, according to figures from the Milwaukee Multiple Listing Service. Fifty-seven homes were sold in the communities of Whitefish Bay, Shorewood, Fox Point, Bayside and Brown Deer in November, three more than the same month in 2011. For the year there have been 868 sales, a 29.7 percent growth over 2011. That’s in line with the entire four-county metro area, which is up 27.3 percent. Shar Borg, an agent with First Weber’s Glendale office, said interest in buying into the North Shore is huge right now. “What the numbers can’t see is how many buyers are sitting out there waiting for homes to come onto the market,” she…

A Milwaukee man is accused of stealing cars across the North Shore, then giving police officers the same story each time he's caught behind the wheel. Dominick Parrish Cole, 18, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Thursday with four counts of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. If convicted, he faces up to nine years in prison and $40,000 in fines. According to the criminal complaint: At 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 23, a Shorewood woman living in the 3500 block of North Lake Drive contacted police officers after she discovered someone had taken her 2008 Infiniti G-35 while it was parked in her driveway. The woman said the vehicle was in her driveway for 1 1/2 hours with the key fob inside and when she came outside, the …

Justis, the Brown Deer Police Department's lead K9 dog, passed away Wednesday. Police Chief says National Night Out for Justice will still take place, but now for a different reason.
Justis, the Brown Deer Police Department's Dutch Shepherd who worked all over the area, helped sniff out drugs, chase down criminals and taught children about the police department. Sadly, his service ended Wednesday when he passed away from a quickly onsetting infection. "He’s going to be missed because he did work with a lot of different people," Brown Deer Police Chief Steven Rinzel said. "Entries, drug searches, there were school searches we had, plus he was also very friendly with kids." And while Justis was a member of the Brown Deer Police Department, Rinzel said he's assisted communities all across Southeastern Wisconsin including Oak Creek, the North Shore, Ozaukee and Washington counties, to name a few. Justis was taken to a …

Shorewood Police Chief David Banaszynski has pitched the idea of consolidating Shorewood and Whitefish Bay’s police departments, most recently in late February 2011, but discussion has now expanded to include the City of Glendale.
Three North Shore communities have agreed to take a serious look at whether consolidation of their police forces is a viable move. Shorewood Police Chief David Banaszynski has pitched the idea of consolidating Shorewood and Whitefish Bay’s police departments, most recently in late February 2011 to the Whitefish Bay Village Board, but discussion has expanded to include the City of Glendale. Officials from each municipality have met several times to discuss the merits of consolidating police services, according to Shorewood officials. In a memo, village managers, presidents and mayors from the three municipalities said consolidation would provide for: But it is apparent that a merger might result in some loss of local control and the ability…

For safety and community connections, the North Shore Fire Department is hosting an official chametz burning – the removal by fire of all leavened bread – in honor of Passover.
It's not a pairing you see every day: a fire department mostly filled with Christian men pairing with Jewish synagogues for a religious ceremony. But for Passover, it's all about learning about each other and keeping the community connected. And it's more widespread than just the North Shore. The North Shore Fire Department will host an official bi'ur chametz, or burning of leavened bread, in honor of Passover from 10 to 11:45 a.m. April 6 at NSFD Station 2 in Glendale, 5901 N. Milwaukee River Pkwy. "The goal of the Fire Department is to be in touch with who we're serving, and if we don't understand who we're serving, I don't think we're doing our job 100 percent," Capt. John Maydak said. Rabbi Wes Kalmar of Congregation Anshe Sfard …
