Messwood Takes the Field in State Playoffs for First Time in 30 Years

A 49-6 loss to Milwaukee Riverside Friday night didn't diminish the significance of Messmer/Shorewood's first playoff appearance since 1981.

The Messmer/Shorewood football team fell 49-6 to Milwaukee Riverside Friday night at Pulaski Stadium in WIAA regional round playoff action. Riverside jumped out to an early lead with two first quarter touchdowns and didn't let up, scoring 35 first half points. Messwood was able to avoid the shutout with Taylor Dennis connecting with Jonathan Carson for a 15-yard touchdown pass with less than a minute left in the game. However, the result of Friday night’s game didn’t diminish what Messwood’s playoff berth meant to the fans, coaches and players. Shorewood had to make a court challenge to a WIAA rule that labeled them ineligible for the playoffs.
