The Kaukauna School District recently announced that our reforms will allow them to add more teachers, reduce class sizes and set funds aside to reward excellent teachers next school year. This is a prime example of how our budget and budget reforms protect middle class jobs and property taxpayers – as well as future generations. The 2011-13 state budget I recently signed transformed a $3.6 billion deficit into a surplus, it caps property taxes and it provides support for basic safety net programs to protect seniors and needy families. A provision in state budget would ban brewers from distributing their beer or owning a tavern.

Milwaukee-area firefighters stood in solidarity with other public employees at risk of losing their collective bargaining rights Saturday afternoon at a press conference hosted by Milwaukee-area Democrats. About a dozen firefighters joined members of the Milwaukee Democratic Legislative Caucus in sounding off against Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed budget repair bill in front of the South Milwaukee Firehouse Saturday. The bill, which would strip public employee unions of the bulk of their collective bargaining rights, is part of the governor's plan to fix a projected $3.6 billion budget deficit in state spending this year. The bill does not affect firefighters and other public safety workers, but firefighters have protested the bill in …
