'Shorewood Fowl 5000' 5K Fun Run Slated for Nov. 10

Registration is underway for the annual 5k race, which serves as a fundraiser for Shorewood High School's boys and girls cross country teams.

Runners will line up at the starting line at 10 a.m. on Nov. 10, as the Fowl 5000 5k fun run and walk, formerly known as the Shorewood Turkey Trot, gets under way for the 18th time. “The main reason for the change is to make it unique and to highlight the 'fowl' awards that the runners can win”, Shorewood School District Athletic Director Bill Haury said.  Haury added he wanted to get away from the generic naming of “Turkey Trot," which many fun runs around the state are coined. Additionally, organizers have altered the race's route this year, with the start and finish line on the Shorewood High School track, instead of at River Park in years past. The annual 5k race serves as a fundraiser for Shorewood High School's boys and girls cross country teams.

The Shorewood Community Fitness Center hosted the 17th annual Turkey Trot 5K off-road run/walk on the Oak Leaf Trail on Saturday. Proceeds benefit Shorewood High School boys and girls cross country teams. The race started at 10 a.m. at River Park, near the intersection of North Oakland Avenue and East Edgewood Avenue.
