Shorewood rang in the holiday season with its first ever tree lighting Friday night. The lighting, held on the Cornerstone patio, between North Star American Bistro and Thief Wine, was attended by around 100. Shorewood High School carolers offered entertainment, and Indulgence Chocolatiers and North Star had holiday treats covered. The tree was donated by Ideal Property Management, which manages the tree lot near Harry's Bar and Grill. The evening was sponsored by local Allstate agent Andrew McCabe.

It's scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Cornerstone patio, between North Star American Bistro and Thief Wine. "It's something that we see becoming a family, holiday tradition in Shorewood," said Lisa Downey with the Shorewood Business Improvement District. Shorewood High School carolers are among the entertainment, and a jolly special guest will light the tree. The Milwaukee County Courthouse Christmas tree will be lit during a ceremony that begins at 5 p.m. Thursday. The ceremony, which is open to the public, will take place in the rotunda on the first floor of the courthouse and includes music by the Salvation Army Brass Band and ornament decorating for children. The ceremony serves as the kick-off for the county’s toy drive, held between Dec. 1 and Dec. 20. Attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to the event to donate to the drive. All toys will be donated to the Salvation Army at the end of the drive.
