The Shorewood Insider

Sumptuous Sushi in Shorewood

With its extensive menu, NaNa Asian Fusion serves up fresh food for any budget, and covers some serious geography in its cuisine.

I will admit, prior to actually going into NaNa Asian Fusion, I was a little apprehensive that this new place would feel cold and be too expensive for us to go as a couple for a real meal, let alone take the kids. But my visit there Monday night with my daughter proved to be delightful. I felt lucky to be eating there, from the comfortable and upscale bar to the textured booths with excellent lighting and dark wood tables. Feels like they know what they are doing with space and lighting, and it really felt like a special occasion, though it didn't break the bank. The booths are low, so you can see the people behind you rather well, but for me that was good because my restaurant neighbors ordered a Shirley Temple ($2) for their daughter and…

Their sushi is great but they still do not have control over their kitchen. Waited 30 minutes after my son got his Sushi dinner for our meal from the kitchen. This is the second time we have been there to have long waits from the kitchen food. We won't be back. Three hours for dinner is too long.   more ›

Sushi Restaurant, NaNa Asian Fusion, Opens Its Doors Wednesday

Owner Nick Zheng says they won't be 100 percent operational, but ready to serve up some sushi when doors open at 11 a.m. sharp.

New sushi restaurant and bar, NaNa Asian Fusion, will join the ever-growing and revitalized Shorewood business district, when it open its doors Wednesday morning. Owner Nick Zheng says Wednesday will be sort a pre-opening, meaning the bar won’t be open and a few items on the menu won't be available. They'll open at 4511 N. Oakland Ave, down the street from Three Lions Pub and Village Pub and Grill and across from Cornerstone. "The bars isn't going to be open yet; the sushi bar will be open," he said. "And I'll say we'll have 90 percent of food on the menu ready." He added his wait staff is still learning the ins and outs of the restaurant too, with training starting Wednesday. Everything should be fully up and running by next week, Zheng …

New Asian Restaurant Eats Cost of $10,000 Liquor License

With Shorewood out of regular $600 Class B liquor licenses, village officials approved a reserve permit for NaNa Asian Fusion, ensuring the restaurant opens on time with a full liquor bar.

New Asian restaurant and sushi bar NaNa Asian Fusion decided to eat the cost of a $10,000 reserve Class B liquor license as the Village Board approved the permit Monday. Owner Nick Zheng hopes to open sometime this month, with a full liquor bar, but with Shorewood businesses already holding Shorewood’s 14 Class B licenses allowing them to serve hard liquor, beer and wine, Zheng’s only option was to apply for a $10,000 reserve license. "He has decided not to wait...because they would like to open fully equipped," Trustee Ellen Eckman said. State law allots municipalities a set number of Class B licenses for issuance and some reserve Class B liquor licenses based on its population, which are required to be sold for no less than $10,000. …

So what does this say about our future??.. It is so typical that (in this country) if you have money, you dont have to wait in line, you dont have to wait for the Board to approve you, just shell out the money and we'll alter our agenda to accomodate you... I guess theres no such thing as equality even among vendors... Is Shorewood that broke that it would give a liquor license to the highest …   more ›

New Asian Restaurant Runs into Liquor License Problem

Owner of new Shorewood sushi bar could have to swallow a $10,000 cost for license.

The plan is to offer customers a full liquor bar when Asian restaurant and sushi bar NaNa Asian Fusion opens its doors on North Oakland Avenue in October. Owner Nick Zheng's only problem: It could cost him as much as $10,000 for the liquor license. Zheng’s new venture at 4511 N. Oakland Ave., a few storefronts south of Three Lions Pub, is one of the many new shops, restaurants and bars that have revived the village’s business district, and many are seeking a Class B liquor license, which allows an establishment to serve hard liquor, beer and wine. When Salvatore’s Pizza opened May 17, it was issued the village’s 14th and last $600 Class B license. State law allots municipalities a set number of Class B licenses for issuance and some …

Asian Fusion Coming to Shorewood

Two cousins plan to open a restaurant and sushi bar in October across from Alterra.

Cousins Nick Zheng and Ka Bo Wong are preparing to open an Asian fusion restaurant and sushi bar called NaNa in the 4500 block of North Oakland Avenue, just south of Three Lions Pub. Zheng said they plan to open for business in October at 4511 N. Oakland Ave. Until then, construction workers are remodeling the interior and adding a sushi and drink bar. Zheng and Wong are the third generation of restaurant owners in their family. Their relatives have opened various types of Asian fusion restaurants in New York, California and Florida. Some of the most popular of their family’s restaurants are of a chain called Wild Ginger. Zheng said NaNa’s menu and style would imitate Wild Ginger’s, with primary influences from Japan and Thailand. Zheng …
