Senior Center Hosting 'Spring into Wellness' Morning April 3

From 9 a.m. to noon at the Senior Resource Center, free workshops and presentations will take place aimed at helping residents spring into wellness.

The Shorewood Senior Resource Center will hold its third annual "Spring into Wellness" morning April 3.  It will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Senior Resource Center located on the lower level of the Shorewood Library, 3920 N. Murray Ave. All workshops and presentations are free. There will be private memory screenings; vision and cardiac wellness screenings, hand grip strength evaluations, blood pressure checks, and more. Healthy muffins, snacks, coffee and tea will be available free of charge throughout the morning. Special demonstrations and workshops include:   From 11:30 to noon, participants will be able to sample a vegetarian Indian dish freshly prepared by Sivakumari Pattormadom Parvati. Door prizes will be drawn every hour…

Candidates Forum Hosted by Senior Center Set for March 11

The forum is open to the public and will be held in the Shorewood Village Center, 3920 N. Murray Ave., lower level of the library.

The Shorewood Senior Resource Center is hosting a public forum for Village Board candidates March 11 from noon to 1 p.m.  It is open to the public and will be held in the Shorewood Village Center, 3920 N. Murray Ave., lower level of the library. Three candidates running for two open seats on the Village Board — incumbent Patrick Linnane and newcomers Tammy Bockhorst and Paul Zovic — are on the April 2 ballot.  Candidates will be given three minutes to introduce themselves and then the forum will open up for questions.

Vendors Sought for Shorewood Flea Market

The village's annual spring flea market is coming soon and organizers are looking for parties interested in selling their goods at the market.

UPDATE Thursday 4 p.m.: The Shorewood Flea Market has been canceled this year The 9th Annual Shorewood Community Flea Market is right around the corner and organizers are looking for interested vendors. Vendors rent an 8-foot table for $20 to display their sale items. Toys, household items, comic books, craft items, plants and collectibles have been sold at previous flea markets. Organizers ask vendors not sell used clothing, food or food products. The market opens May 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Shorewood Village Center, in the lower level of the Shorewood Library, 3920 N. Murray Avenue. The Shorewood Senior Resource Center will be responsible for publicity, including lawn signs, posters and a classified ad in the Milwaukee Journal …

Senior Center Offering Courses on Adaption of Shakespearean Theater

A UW-Milwaukee professor and seasoned theater director will discuss the operatic adaptations of the works of William Shakespeare over a four session course.

The Shorewood Senior Resource Center will present a series of programs about operatic adaptations of the works of William Shakespeare. The first of four classes will be held Nov. 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. on the ground floor of the Shorewood Village Center, 2010 E. Shorewood Blvd.        During the course of these four sessions the presenter, Corliss Phillabaum, will discuss operatic adaptations of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Romeo and Juliet," "The Merry Wives of Windsor," "Hamlet" and even a classic Broadway musical based on "The Taming of the Shrew."  Phillabaum is a UW-Milwaukee emeritus professor of theatre who has directed operatic productions there for 20 years, and presented pre-curtain talks for the Florentine Opera Milwaukee for more …

Living Healthy Is More than Just An Apple A Day

Senior Resource Center offers morning full of mental and physical health screenings, and special demonstrations and workshops on April 4.

The Shorewood Senior Resource Center will hold its second annual wellness morning on April 4.  It will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Resource Center, located on the lower level of the Shorewood Public Library, 2010 E. Shorewood Blvd. There will be private memory screenings, vision, balance and cardiac wellness screenings, hand grip strength evaluations, blood pressure checks and chair massages. Healthy muffins, snacks, coffee and tea will be available.
