School officials are requiring students have signed permission from a parent before they can audition for the Broadway musical, "Spring Awakening," which deals with teenage pregnancy, homosexuality, child abuse, sexual assault and suicide.

The rock adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s 1891 expressionist play tells the story of 19th century German teenagers facing issues related to their sexuality. Drama students will put on a rendition of the Tony award-winning Nov. 1 through 4 in the Shorewood High School auditorium.
Shorewood High School drama students will bring you the comedy, Lend Me a Tenor, Nov. 1 through 4. Shows start at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Lend Me a Tenor is a Tony award-winning comedy by Ken Ludwig. Set in September 1934, the general manager of the Cleveland Opera Company, Saunders, is preparing for the performance of the famous Tito Morelli. But alas, through an odd turn of events, Tito turns out to be a no-show, and Saunders gives the part to his assistant, Max. Max succeeds as Morelli, but suddenly the real Morelli shows up, and soon two Titos are running around in costume, along with two women in lingerie that believe they are with the real Tito Morelli. SHS Drama, Friends of Atwater Beach, and Shorewood Reads were awarded foundation funds, leaving the foundation's budget close to dry.
With $53,397 remaining in its budget for grants, the Shorewood Foundation granted about $45,000 Tuesday to proposals by Shorewood High School Drama, Friends of Atwater Beach, and Shorewood Reads. However, the foundation, a non-profit run by volunteers and funded solely by individual donations, denied funding to a high school learning lab. The roughly $25,000 to SHS Drama will fund 24 lavaliere microphones and related equipment for high school productions, recreation department classes and the Shorewood Players. “We have had this type of microphone for years but after 20 years we are in dire need of more,” SHS Drama Director Barbara Gensler wrote in the application.
