38-Foot Slide to Atwater Beach Among Proposed Playground Upgrades

Village trustees expressed concern that installing the slide would impact recently completed bluff stabilization, but they're mostly in favor of the rest of the proposed playground equipment.

Anyone who has made the trip down the steps to Atwater Beach knows it’s quite the trek. So, why not slide down? That’s not exactly the inspiration behind a 38-foot slide hugging the bluff at Atwater Beach, but part of a drive to update the playground equipment on Shorewood’s vista to Lake Michigan. A sub-committee of Shorewood’s Park Commission has proposed the slide, but village trustees are concerned about the impact on the bluff’s stability. The proposal also includes three new pieces of equipment. Ann McKaig, a member of the sub-committee, has been working closely with Friends of Atwater Beach (FAB). She said that organization is willing to donate the equipment and set up the landscaping, negating any village funding. However, the …

What's Up This Week in Shorewood? School Board To Consider Managerial And Administrative Salaries

A look ahead at the week's local events and news.

Here's a look at what's coming up this week in Shorewood. If we're missing something, you can add it to the calendar. School Board: The Shorewood School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the library of Atwater Elementary School, 2100 E. Capitol Dr. The board is expected to discuss and vote on managerial and administrative salaries, the hiring of a technology support position and an Shorewood High School athletic donation. Parks Commission: The village's Parks Commission is schedule to meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in Village Hall. I don't think anyone should get 'undo' (undue?) pay raises, but it seems reasonable to give the normal pay raises. I'd support the idea of 'penalizing' school administration by having them contribute to their healthcare benefit and pension costs like the teachers.   more ›
