If you weren't able to make the free showing or forgot to tune to Milwaukee Public Television on Thursday when it first hit the air, don't fret — the second season premiere of "Around the Corner with John McGivern," featuring Shorewood, is available online in its entirety. Emmy award-winning actor John McGivern leads unique field trips through Wisconsin towns and neighborhoods discovering their secrets and history. The Shorewood Business Improvement District, and Village Marketing Committee is offering free transportation to the early screening of the second season premiere of Milwaukee Public Television's "Around the Corner," showcasing the village. The Milwaukee Public Television program, hosted by actor John McGivern, dives into the secrets, interesting tidbits in different Wisconsin communities. The season premiere features Shorewood and will be shown Jan. 3 at Discovery World.
Shorewood residents are invited to an early screening of the second season premiere of Milwaukee Public Television's "Around the Corner," showcasing the village. Running 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 at MPTV's Community Cinema at Discovery World, 500 N. Harbor Dr., the episode features local businesses, interviews with organizations like the Shorewood Table Tennis Club and dives into the history behind Atwater Beach and Hubbard Park, among other Shorewood hot spots. The episode will also feature interviews with Shorewood High School Principal Matt Joynt and retired drama director Barb Gensler, as well as a scene from the spring musical, "Aida." John McGivern in Shorewood; his visit to the Shorewood High School Drama stage took some quick tech improv and flexibility of 75 students.
John McGivern is a funny guy, performance artist, writer and producer. A native of Milwaukee, he focuses his humor and writing on Milwaukee's insider details, and stars in one-man plays and shows about his hometown. He’s got many, devoted, fans that range from age 2 to 102, and, after meeting him, it’s easy to see why. McGivern has an easy smile and an infectious enthusiasm that makes anything he investigates all the more interesting. The show, hosted by actor John McGivern, dives into the secrets and interesting tidbits in different Wisconsin communities. Friday, the Milwaukee Public Television program will be in Shorewood to start filming its second season.
Those who have called Shorewood home for much of their lives, and even the newcomers, can tell their village holds a lot of interesting historic tidbits. Enough at least, to fill a 30-minute program. Our fair village will be the subject of a Milwaukee Public Television program titled "Around the Corner." Hosted by Emmy award-winning actor John McGivern, filming will start in Shorewood on Friday for an episode that will anchor the program's second season, which is scheduled to return to the air in January.
