Local agent says there aren't enough homes to satisfy prospective homeowners who are taking advantage of very low rates.
North Shore home sales continued their upward 2012 trend in November, and are on pace to finish about 30 percent ahead of 2011, according to figures from the Milwaukee Multiple Listing Service. Fifty-seven homes were sold in the communities of Whitefish Bay, Shorewood, Fox Point, Bayside and Brown Deer in November, three more than the same month in 2011. For the year there have been 868 sales, a 29.7 percent growth over 2011. That’s in line with the entire four-county metro area, which is up 27.3 percent. Shar Borg, an agent with First Weber’s Glendale office, said interest in buying into the North Shore is huge right now. “What the numbers can’t see is how many buyers are sitting out there waiting for homes to come onto the market,” she…

So, you’ve wanted to sell your house for the past couple of years but the sagging housing market has given you the blues?d Cheer up! This fall could finally be the right time to put the homestead on the market. That’s the consensus among a group of real estate experts we asked to assess the current Milwaukee area housing market and — in particular — the conditions for selling a home this fall. In fact, the market has been slowly but surely improving for several months. “This year, we’ve seen a steady increase in the market,” said John Paul Horning, vice president of Shorewest Realtors, which has offices throughout the area, including Wauwatosa, Shorewood and Mequon. “We’ve been up roughly 25 to 30 percent every month compared to last year…

The sure-fire signs it’s time to upgrade.
Whether it was sharing a bedroom with a sibling growing up, or perhaps sharing a dorm room in college, we’ve all felt the pinch of being confined into a space that was just a little too small for what we needed. And, the logical next step after realizing that the space is too small: upgrading to a larger home. My wife and I felt this pinch ourselves after we were married for about 10 years. We had two kids, one of whose bedrooms was a walk-through to the rest of the second floor, and all shared one bathroom. As we looked at our options, we found the opportunity to upgrade — and never looked back. Just last month, I had an old friend call me about his son and daughter-in-law. “They’re ready to buy, Desty,” he said. "And we want to help them look at their first house.” First-time homebuyers finding a home in today’s market: great idea. Parents helping them look for a time: potentially great — and potentially disastrous. As a parent myself, I remember all of the big milestones of my children’s lives; heading to high school, then off to college, then starting careers. Just like we have to temper ourselves as parents to give too much unsolicited advice during these big life changes, we need to do the same when our children want to buy their first home. Having watched these situations before, I’ve found three things parents should do – …

It's happening everywhere, Jenny, and it's not always a case of a family being tossed out of their home. Sometimes it's a flipper who got in over their head (see the as-is property above - many of those are of that variety) or people who decided to walk away from the house because they were upside down on their mortgage. Without knowing the circumstances, it's hard to label the situation as …   more ›
