Primary Election Preview: Wisconsin State Assembly, 10th District

Rep. Sandy Pasch and community activists Millie Coby and Ieshuh Griffin will square off in a Democratic primary Tuesday. With no Republican in the race, the primary winner takes the seat.

With no Republican candidates on the 10th Assembly District ballot, Tuesday's Democratic primary is a winner-take-all contest. Rep. Sandy Pasch of Whitefish Bay, Millie Coby of Shorewood and Ieshuh Griffin of Milwaukee are Democrats competing for the open seat, which includes Shorewood, Riverwest and parts Milwaukee's central city. Candidate Harriet Callier has dropped out of the race, but her name will still appear on the ballot. The seat is currently held by Rep. Elizabeth Coggs of Milwaukee, but she vacating the seat to run for her cousin Spencer Coggs’ 6th Senate District seat. Harriet Callier Bows Out of 10th Assembly District Race

With less than a week before a Democratic primary, the candidate for state Legislature blasted candidate Rep. Sandy Pasch and said she will be supporting Shorewood resident Millie Coby in the race.

(Updated 3:35 p.m. Wednesday with comments from Rep. Sandy Pasch) Candidate in the race for the 10th Assembly District seat, Harriet Callier, said Tuesday, less than a week from a Democratic primary, she is bowing out and throwing her support to Shorewood resident Millie Coby. "Given the fact that we all cannot be the top vote getter on August 14, I gladly yield my campaign — and ask that any support that would have been given to me on Election Day be given to Millie Coby as elected representation for the 10th Assembly District," she said in a statement Tuesday. 10th Assembly District Candidates Preach Unity in Shorewood

More than 50 people attended the Grassroots Shorewood forum Monday at the library. The primary election is Aug. 14.

Candidates vying to represent the 10th Assembly District, newly drawn to include Shorewood with neighborhoods in Milwaukee's inner city, spoke passionately Monday night at the Shorewood Public Library about ways to address the needs of two demographically diverse places now politically bound together. "I’m not as familiar with Shorewood as I am with Milwaukee, and if Shorewood was isolated, I wouldn’t really know how to approach you because you all don’t really see the problems that we have," candidate Ieshuh Griffin of Milwaukee said during the forum, organized by Grassroots Shorewood.
