Whitefish Bay's only gas station has been sold to a new owner after 51 years in business, 29 of which have been in its current location on Hampton Road.
One by one, drivers pulled into the lot of the old Harder's Shell station today expecting to fill up their gas tank, only to realize the gas pumps have disappeared and the store has been closed up. "It just seemed so sudden," said customer Lori Ahrenhoerster. "I always got gas there." The gas station at 303 E Hampton Road had been in business for decades before it closed Monday night. Shorewood gas station contends "they are wrong," but will work with DNR to resolve issue.

"The consultant will look for the source through a variety of tests, and hopefully remediation can follow," Hnat said. The station will pay for any consultant or other fees Hnat said. Hnat said …

The Shorewood Citgo gas station state and fire officials have shut down — in light of a gasoline leak in the village’s sewer system — has a history of contamination problems stretching back to 1991, Today's TMJ4 reports. The owner of the station at 1602 E. Capitol Dr., Syed Rizvi of Glendale, hired Benchmark Environmental Services in 2008 to examine the property and inspection results showed a 1991 fuel leak had contaminated soil near East Capitol Drive and North Newhall Street. The owner of Benchmark, an Illinois-based environmental engineering firm, told the news station that Rizvi ignored the results of the inspection, and left unaddressed, the contamination likely made its way into Shorewood's sewer system via groundwater and into …

If you're not altering the footprint of the building (which wouldn't be necessary to convert the service bays to a convenience store and do other modifications to the interior), it's probably not a concern.   more ›
