800 Volunteers Work to Feed Starving Children

United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay hopes to pack 150,000 meals for starving children over a three-day period.

Roughly 6,200 children under age five die every day of hunger or malnutrition. That number is slowly going down, thanks to organizations like United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay, which recruited more than 800 volunteers for a food packing event this week. The three-day food packing event is facilitated by Feed My Starving Children, a non-profit Christian hunger relief organization. Last year, Feed My Starving Children packed 162 million meals consisting of vitamin-packed flavoring, dried vegetables, soy protein and rice. According to Feed My Starving Children, the number of children dying from starvation has decreased 43 percent from 1992. United Methodist Wants 750 Volunteers for Food Packing Event

United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay is working with an international hunger relief organization to pack 150,000 meals for starving children throughout the world.

The United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay, in conjunction with the Feed My Starving Children hunger relief organization, is sponsoring a food packing event to combat world hunger.  The event will take place on April 4-6 at Portal Industries, 1015 Cedar Creek Road in Grafton, Wisconsin. The food will be packed in eight two-hour shifts over the course of the three days. The goal is to recruit 750 volunteers and to pack 150,000 meals. All are welcome to participate, regardless of church affiliation.  Pre-registration is required and a $10 donation is requested.  Additional donations are also welcome.  Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed starving children throughout the world. Yes, that is correct. Each meal costs 22 cents. It is not required to give a $10 donation. We have found that people feel so good about this effort that they have wanted to contribute in as many ways as possible.
