Sheriff David Clarke Puts Holiday Drivers on Alert

Extra officers will be on every highway and street all weekend, says Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, and municipal police back that up.

The highways and byways of Milwaukee County will be crowded with traffic this long holiday weekend, and Sheriff David Clarke wants all drivers, those law-abiding and those not, to know law officers will be on the road with them – in numbers. With responsibilty for freeways, highways and parks, sheriff's deputies will be on heavy, highly visible patrol, Clarke said, along with local police and the State Patrol. "Memorial Day weekend represents the start of the summer driving season, when highway travel increases dramatically," Clarke said at a press conference Thursday. 4 Drunken Drivers Arrested Last Week

Shorewood police nab four for operating while intoxicated, including a Shorewood man found in possession of drug paraphernalia, which later tested positive for marijuana.

Police Report: Stolen Car; Man Punches Woman while She Waits at Bus Stop

A 2007 blue Hyundai Santa Fe SUV was reported stolen sometime overnight on Thursday, while parked on the street in the 3600 block of North Maryland Avenue. The owner told police she believes the car was locked at the time and the keys were in her possession. Police are still working to retrieve the stolen car. In other police news:

Police Report: Drunken Driver Causes Car Accident

Police arrested a 34-year-old Milwaukee man for drunken driving Jan. 18 after he failed to yield at a Shorewood intersection and crashed into a car. According to the police report, the driver pulled up to a flashing red light at the intersection of North Oakland Avenue and East Kenmore Place around 11:40 p.m. The driver failed to yield to southbound traffic on Oakland Avenue and struck a car causing severe damage. No one was injured. When police made contact with the driver, they say he smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. The driver later admitted to drinking, police say. He failed field sobriety tests and registered a .15 blood alcohol content during a Breathalyzer. It’s his first operating while intoxicated offense.  In other …

Police Nab Several Drunken Drivers over Past Couple Weeks

Shorewood police have been busy making operating while intoxicated arrests including several drivers driving at excessive speeds and who claimed to had hit a pole.

There have been several drunken driving arrests in a little over a week’s time, according to the Shorewood police log.   A 31-year-old Shorewood man was arrested for drunken driving Dec. 29 after calling the local fire department to report his own car accident. According to police, the man called North Shore Fire to report he had struck a pole somewhere in Milwaukee, upon arriving at his Shorewood home in the 4400 block of North Oakland Avenue. Police arrested the man for first offense OWI after he registered a 0.12 blood alcohol content during a Breathalyzer. Milwaukee police told Shorewood authorities they couldn’t find the pole the driver claimed he hit.  On Jan. 1, police say a 24-year-old Mequon was arrested for operating while …

Police Report: Stolen Car Recovered Hours Later; Drunken Driving Arrest

A black 2001 Ford Explorer stolen from a garage overnight on Dec. 21 was found a few hours later in the 4400 block of North Oakland Avenue, according to a police report.  Police say the car was taken from a detached garage in the 2100 block of East Edgewood Avenue. A door to the garage was open at the time and the keys were in the locked car. The owner told police he usually uses a keypad to get into his car and leaves the keys inside. The Explorer was recovered in its original condition, but a $140 Garmin GPS in the car at the time of the theft was not recovered. Also in the police report:

Police Report: Man Assaulted after Road Rage Incident; Drunken Driving Arrest

A case of road rage ended with a 66-year-old Milwaukee man in handcuffs after police say he assaulted a pedestrian. Tuesday morning at 8:28 in the 4400 block of North Oakland Avenue, police say the suspect nearly hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a Shorewood man, retaliated by slapping the car. The Milwaukee man then turned his car around, parked it, jumped out of his car, found the victim and began to slap and kick him. The victim was not seriously injured. Police arrested the suspect for disorderly conduct. Also in the police report:

Police Report: Teens Busted with Pot, Alcohol; 3 OWI Arrests

A 16-year-old Shorewood girl and 17-year-old Mequon boy were arrested Sunday night after police found them in possession of alcohol, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Police were dispatched to the 4100 block of North Stowell Avenue at 1:26 a.m. for a report of people arguing in an alleyway. One block east in the 4100 block of North Downer Avenue, police observed the teens sitting in a car, and smelled pot and alcohol after speaking with the teenagers. Both suspects were given breathalyzers and came back positive. Police found a blue and purple glass pipe, .3 grams of pot and a bottle of vodka in the teenager's possession. Police Report: Woman Says Ex-Husband Sexually Assaulted Her; Drunken Driving Arrest

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

Shorewood police say they found a 21-year-old Milwaukee man passed out in his car, sitting in traffic near the intersection of North Oakland Avenue and East Capitol Drive early Saturday morning. Following a traffic stop, the man was arrested for drunken driving. The incident occurred at 3:17 a.m. in the 1700 block of East Capitol Drive. The man smelled of alcohol and later failed a field sobriety test, according to police. His blood alcohol level was found to be .16. It’s his first operating while intoxicated offense, according to online court records. Police Report: Drunken Driving Arrest; Authorities Looking for 2 Who Left Clothing at Scene

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police reports.

A 32-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested early Friday morning after police performed a traffic stop for driving without headlights and found her to be intoxicated. During the traffic stop in the 4000 block of North Morris Boulevard at 2:25 a.m., police say they smelled alcohol and marijuana coming from the car. The woman admitted to smoking pot about an hour before the stop. She failed a sobriety test performed on the scene. Police are waiting on the results of a blood test to determine her blood alcohol level at the time of the stop. It’s the woman’s first operating while intoxicated offense. Also in the police report:
