Shorewood Receives Award for North Shore Intergovernmental Cooperation

Along with six other North Shore communities, the village was acknowledged for its continued cooperation with other neighboring municipalities in sharing services.

Along with six other North Shore communities and the fire department, Shorewood received the Intergovernmental Cooperation Award from the Public Policy Forum for its North Shore Consolidated Dispatch Services Agreement. The Forum presented Shorewood with the award at its Annual Salute to Local Government in late June for its innovation and ingenuity in intergovernmental cooperation, which demonstrated the meaning of good government. The villages of Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, River Hills, Whitefish Bay, city of Glendale and North Shore Fire Department were also presented with awards. Brown Deer Joins Consolidated Dispatch

All seven municipalities in NSFD now also members of consolidated dispatch.

The final piece in a major change to the North Shore police departments is in place. On Monday night, the Brown Deer Village Board authorized Village Attorney John Fuchs to negotiate a contract with Bayside for consolidating their dispatch centers, according to an article by BrownDeerNOW. It's been greater than a two-year debate among Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, River Hills, Shorewood, Whitefish Bay and Glendale. The same seven communities are members of the North Shore Fire Department. The report says that with Brown Deer now joining the consolidation effort, Bayside will begin seeking bids for an addition to Village Hall for the new center, planned to open in 2012. Bayside Village Board Makes Progress Toward Combined Dispatch

Two more municipalities to vote on consolidation in the next couple of weeks.

Small steps toward a big consolidation are continuing in the North Shore. Bayside trustees voted Thursday to let Village Manager Andy Pederson negotiate an agreement to create a consolidated police and fire dispatch center that would include the same seven municipalities that are part of the North Shore Fire Department. Once an agreement is reached, Village President Sam Dickman would have the authority to sign off on the deal without having to go back to the Village Board, trustees decided. Whitefish Bay officials 0n Monday agreed to be part of the joint operation. Glendale aldermen will vote on the issue on Monday, Shorewood on April 18 and Brown Deer on May 2.
