Camp Bar Expanding with 'The Cabin'

The popular North Oakland Avenue bar will introduce "The Cabin" — which will include seating for about 50, a back bar and fireplace — during a grand opening event May 10,

To accommodate the large crowds Shorewood's Camp Bar has been experiencing since opening in November, owners say they have expanded next door. The popular North Oakland Avenue bar will introduce "The Cabin" during a grand opening event May 10, owner Paul Hackbarth said. "We started Camp not only because it was a dream of ours but because we felt it is what the community needed on that end of Oakland Avenue," Hackbarth said. "So for us to not be able to give everyone that walked through the door a cozy spot to enjoy a drink in was difficult for us. "We don't want to be known as the overcrowded bar, but with the quick success of Camp, we knew we had to make some changes," he added.  "The Cabin" will include additional seating for about 50 …

Is Shorewood Becoming A Nightlife Destination?

With the recent addition of Camp Bar to the slate of North Oakland Avenue establishments in Shorewood, has the village emerged as a real nightlife destination?

North Oakland Avenue is home to a range of establishments to indulge. When Camp Bar opened in mid-November, it became the sixth bar, pub, wine bar or restaurant to double as a bar on North Oakland Avenue. A front page splash on this week's Shepherd Express labeled Shorewood as a place with an emerging nightlife.  "Perhaps what’s most surprising about Camp is its location," the Shepherd's article reads. "It’s the type of high-concept bar that would fit right in on the trendiest strips of the East Side or Bay View, yet it’s housed at 4044 N. Oakland Ave. in Shorewood, a historically quiet suburb better known for its family mindset and high-ranking school system than any sort of organized nightlife." Bars like Three Lions Pub, Village Pub, …

Camp Bar Named One of the Best New Bars in Nation

Shorewood's newest bar is garnering some high accolades after Details Magazine, an national monthly online publication, listed it as a top newly-opened establishment.

Just months after opening, Shorewood's newest bar is garnering some high accolades, being named one of the best new bars in the country. Details Magazine, a national monthly online publication, has listed Camp Bar as a top newly-opened establishment in its "local favorites" category. "Modeled after the owners' lake cabin up north, this homey lodge has a pedigreed-lumberjack aesthetic and serves a mean Wisconsin old-fashioned (brandy muddled with orange and cherry)," the publication reads.  Also on the "local favorites" list with Camp are bars in Los Angeles, Portland and Brooklyn.  The northern Wisconsin cabin-themed tavern opened at 4044 N. Oakland Ave., across the street from the new LightHorse 4041 development, in November.

While it seems to be a popular place, I personally don't think that Camp is at all like the 'Up North'. The music is way too loud. I was hoping for a more quiet place where one can relax and converse with friends or shoot a game of darts--like the places we go to when we are 'Up North'...   more ›
