PHOTOS: Greyhounds Edge Cedarburg to Pick Up Season Win No. 9

The boys varsity basketball team fought off a fourth quarter surge by Cedarburg to improve to 9-5 (7-4) on the season.

The Greyhounds picked up their ninth win of the season Tuesday night edging out Cedarburg 74-68. The boys varsity basketball team fought off a fourth quarter surge by Cedarburg to improve to 9-5, 7-4 in the Woodland Conference, on the season.  For its next game, the team will travel to New Berlin Eisenhower for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff on Friday.

Greyhounds Edge Greenfield, Win Season Opener

The Shorewood boys basketball team slipped past Greenfield 68-64 to win its first season and Woodland Conference game of the season.

The Greyhounds edged out Greenfield in its season opener Tuesday night. Shorewood lead 35-26 at halftime and was able to endure a Hawks' 4th quarter surge — outscoring the Greyhounds 13 to 19 — to secure its first season and Woodland Conference win of the year on Greenfield's home court, 68-64. Andrew Davis drained two three-pointers and led the Greyhounds with 18 points, Donovan Freeman scored 14 and Carmen Purvis picked up 13 points. Greenfield's Rick Santiago was the game's top scorer with 23 points, according to Wissports.net. Next up, the Greyhounds will travel to conference foe Cudahy on Nov. 27. PHOTOS: Bailey's 29 Leads Greyhounds to Dominating Win over Cudahy

Shorewood picks up its eighth win of the season — the most season wins in at least a decade — with a 73-54 win.

Shorewood picked up its eighth win of the season, the most season wins in at least a decade, with a convincing win over Woodland Conference rival Cudahy. Senior center Aaron Bailey led the way with 29 points and sophomore Patrick Roder dropped 14 points. The Greyhounds improved to 8-7 (5-7) on the season.  The Greyhounds held the Packers to six points, while putting up 19 points, in the first quarter, but would leave the door open; finishing the first half with just a three-point lead. However, Shorewood would pull away after halftime, outscoring Cudahy 43-27. Shorewood will try to build on its big win, when they travel to Brown Deer on Tuesday.

Greyhounds One Win Away from Best Season in Decade

Defense has been the name of the game for Shorewood and the squad could pick up win number eight in its matchup against Cudahy on Friday.

Eight is the magic number for the Shorewood Greyhounds this season. In a game Friday night, the boys basketball team can reach the magic number: eight wins, with a victory over Woodland Conference foe Cudahy, and continue on to the best season the program has had in at least a decade. “It’s been a pretty good ride,” said Shorewood Head Coach Phil Jones, who has been with the team for two seasons. “I felt there were some games we should have won earlier in the year.” With just a 13-33 record over the past two seasons, Jones said it is a matter of eliminating a losing mentality among the players and building a winning attitude. “Winning breeds winning and losing breeds losing,” he said. “After you lose so much, you start to accept it, and …

Greyhound Roundup: Girls Basketball Team Tops USM in OT

Boys get important victory over a good Brown Deer team.

Here is this week's roundup of Shorewood High School sports, courtesy of Athletic Director Bill Haury: Girls Basketball – The girls got back on the winning track with a victory at Brown Deer.  The first quarter was close with the Falcons taking an early lead 10-8.  After that, the Greyhounds took control with a 17-7 second quarter, taking a 25-17 lead into halftime.  They maintained their momentum with an 18-7 third quarter, and that was all they needed as they coasted to a 50-43 victory.  Robbie Holland led all scorers with 18 points, Margaret O’Brien added 12, Johnna Odom had 10, Aisling Moloney had 6 points, Ashly Eimers had 3, and Maura Curtis scored 1 point. Greyhound Roundup: Gymnasts Earn Season-High Score

Boys and girls basketball teams defeat St. Francis.

Here is a roundup of sports action from Shorewood High School last week, courtesy of Athletic Director Bill Haury: Gymnastics– The girls team had a great meet on Wednesday at Whitefish Bay.  The varsity team set a season high score of 118.25.  Tyiana Lizana scored an 8.5 and took second on the vault.  Asia Cruz placed third on bars (7.4) and second on beam (8.3).  Other gymnasts contributing to the team’s success were Erin Valusek, Lily Blind, Yve Bennett, Logan Johnson, Carolyn Mahns and Anna Noble-Machery. Deion Jackson-Body scored 17 points as Shorewood handled Wauwatosa West 60-33 on Friday night in Woodland Conference-Blue boys basketball game. Andre Carroll topped Tosa West with nine points, according to WisSports.net.
