Man Accused of Shorewood Bomb Threats Pleads Guilty

Thomas Yela, 50, pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of creating a bomb scare, after he called police and an intervention center in August, and threatened to blow up Shorewood's River Park apartments and the Locust Street bridge.

The 50-year-old Milwaukee man charged with threatening to blow up a Shorewood apartment building and a bridge in Milwaukee pleaded guilty on Monday, according to online court records. Thomas Yela was charged Aug. 31, after he called in bomb threats, prompting police to evacuate Village Hall, and some 600 residents from the River Park Apartments in Shorewood on Aug. 27.  According to the criminal complaint, Yela phoned an intervention hotline and told an employee he strapped bombs to two of the apartment buildings and it would be up to police to figure out which ones. Milwaukee County Sheriff’s bomb squad dogs combed the buildings and no bombs were found.  He also said he was going to blow up the Locust Street bridge just because he felt …

Police: Homeless Man Threatened to Blow Up Village Hall, Shorewood Apartments

Police say the threats were made at 4:06 p.m. Both buildings were searched by Milwaukee County Sheriff's bomb squad dogs, before occupants were allowed to return.

A 50-year-old homeless man was arrested Monday evening after threatening to blow up Village Hall and the River Park Apartments in Shorewood. The man — Shorewood police have indentified him as Thomas Yela — called an intervention center and then Milwaukee police and threatened to blow up the “Shorewood court” and an unknown assisted living facility at approximately 4:06 p.m., according to police. Village Hall, 3930 N. Murray Ave., and the apartments were evacuated and Milwaukee County Sheriff’s bomb squad dogs combed the buildings. "There was no bomb located by any dogs," Shorewood Police Chief David Banaszynski said. "The dogs went through both buildings." Unfounded Bomb Threat Closes CVS for Two Hours

The Hampton Avenue store was closed for two hours as canines and bomb technicians from the sheriff's office investigated the phone call threat.

Whitefish Bay police cars blocked off the CVS Pharmacy parking lot as canines and bomb technicians investigated a bomb threat at the Hampton Avenue store Thursday afternoon. Whitefish Bay Interim Police Chief Ron Stefanski said the CVS manager called the police station at 2:20 p.m. after an employee received a vague phone call about a bomb being located in the store. The store closed its doors, and managers told employees and customers to leave. Police have not determined who the caller is, but the CVS employee who received the call said it was a male adult. Whitefish Bay police worked with Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office canines and bomb technicians as they investigated the store for two hours. Nothing suspicious was found in the store…
