Shorewood police and bike experts from Rainbow Jersey will give local children a crash course in losing the bicycle training wheels at the second annual First Ride event, June 16 from noon to 3 p.m., in the Atwater Elementary parking lot. The course is designed to help children 10 and younger learn to balance and feel comfortable without the training wheels. It’s based on an innovative “balancing first” method that involves removing the bike pedals and lowering the seat during practice. The event is free and will take place at 2100 E. Officers from five department look for thief before he's apprehended in Whitefish Bay.
A 17-year-old Milwaukee teen thought he could trade up his stolen bike for another. Little did he know that five North Shore police departments would work together, chasing him through two villages before getting both bikes back to their respective owners. Shorewood police and bike experts from Rainbow Jersey Bicycles will give local children a crash course in losing the training wheels and riding their bikes at the First Ride event, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., in the Atwater Elementary parking lot. Children will learn vital bike safety tips and the proven balancing first method. Parents must register by Tuesday, by using the form at the Shorewood Business Improvement District’s website or finding one at Rainbow Jersey, 4600 N.
