Shorewood's New Neighbors Receive Warm Welcome (Plus How to Delight Your Family with a Large Recycling Kart)

Swanky Seconds and Welcome Neighbors of Shorewood Reception a Success!

On November 21, 2013, Swanky Seconds, at 2223 E. Capitol Drive, hosted a Meet 'n Greet for New Neighbors of Shorewood, Wisconsin, which was attended by new families and local neighbors, as well as a few community leaders and a representative from the School District of Shorewood.

Many enjoyed the luxury items for sale, and others enjoyed the sampling of pies provided by Miss Cupcake, 3801 N. Oakland, who is taking orders for pies for Thanksgiving now through Wednesday morning, 11/27/13.

The Welcome Neighbors Director, Jenny Heyden, registered new voters and answered questions about the Village.  Below are Three Questions with Answers from this Month's meetings with New Neighbors:

1. A Mystery, Revealed: A Kart by any other name would smell as sweet!
Specifically, two new residents wondered how to obtain a rolling, tall recycling kart. The answer is this: for $65 you, too, can be the proud owner of a matching recycling kart to your garbage kart.  It's so easy! The Village is very accommodating.
In Person:
You can go in person to the Dept of Public Works, 3801 N Morris, 7am-3:30pm M-Thur, Fri 7am-11am  checks or cash only, or to the Village Hall 8am-5pm M-F, and purchase a kart with cash, check or credit also accepted.

Karts are delivered on Thursdays only.

By Mail:
If you can't make it to the DPW or Village Hall in person, you may write a note to the Village and enclose a check for $65! Your brand new kart will magically appear on a Thursday, depending on when your check is processed. Mail to the Shorewood Village Hall, 3930 N. Murray, Shorewood, WI, 53211, and include your name, address for the kart, and contact information along with the check made out to the Village of Shorewood. You may even drop this envelope in the special White Mailbox that is in the parking lot next to the Shorewood Public Library. Makes a great, unexpected, holiday or birthday gift! Seriously, the Welcome Neighbor Program has been informed that a resident received such a kart for his birthday and was quite pleased. [We have been informed that gift wrap is not available, but you may provide a jaunty bow for your loved one (i.e. -- B.Y.O. Bow)].

2. Leaf Collection is the other burning question on many minds. The answer is the last leaf collection will occur December 6th. More information here.  Last week of leaf collection begins 12/2 (this is day certain, so if you are on the Monday route your last day will be 12/2, Tuesday 12/3, etc.).

3. Snow pants. For new parents to the District, yes, snow pants are regular and customary now that the cold weather is here. Where to get them? Locally you can find snow pants at most department stores Walmart, Kohl's, Target, or Land's End Outlet (or online there and lots of places). Don't hesitate to ask friends and neighbors - as kids grow they grow out of those.

Mark your calendars! The December reception will be at Min's at 4451 N. Oakland, Shorewood, on Weds. December 4th, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
