Free and Open to the Public: March 6, 2014, Thursday Evening. New Neighbors 6-7pm. The Garden Room of Shorewood, Wisconsin, is hosting a free reception for a new art show/sale of Slava Yanovsky's whirligig artwork, and you're invited! The reception for the artist is 5-7pm and is open to the public. If you are a new neighbor to Shorewood, please come from 6-7pm for a special orientation, goody bag, and information provided by the Welcome Neighbors Program. RSVP if you'd like a goody bag to welcome@villageofshorewood.org

After meeting in the lobby of the Garden Room, the 6-7pm session will provide a New Neighbor orientation, reception and tour of Garden Room spaces including the glass rooftop greenhouse and new restaurant Tochi. Guests will have the opportunity to join the artist reception for Slava Yanovsky at the Garden Room. Questions about the Garden Room: Email customerservice@gardenroomonline.com.

About the artist: Slava Yanovsky, a Shorewood resident since 1980, created a large folk art piece for the Shorewood Public Library as a counter-point to the technology present in a modern library. Yanovsky was originally trained as a printmaker then began experimenting with cutting zinc and copper etching plates into weather vanes. Today, he approaches folk art in his own creative way with boldly-carved wood whirligigs and other whimsical objects.
