Styles to Suit all Tastes at 'Summer Sounds' Concert Series to Start June 20

Shorewood is kicking off its free 10-week concert series June 20 with reggae band King Solomon.

is home to Shorewood's Summer Sounds concert series, kicking off June 20 for 10 consecutive Wednesday evenings, exculding the fourth of July, of free performances from jazz to blues, Irish to country, and every musical style in-between.

The concerts begin at 6 p.m. at Shorewood's park along the Milwaukee River, 3565 N. Morris Blvd. Assorted food and beverages will be sold; no carry-in alcohol is allowed.

June 20: King Solomon is known for its reggae music in the region, infectious blend of roots reggae and dancehall has been described as a soulful vibe with a powerhouse punch to the heart.

June 27: Mrs. Fun. A jazz/funk duo that has played with Indigo Girls and k.d. lang, with opening act by Lake Bluff fifth and sixth graders.

July 11: The Alex Wilson Band. Winner of several WAMI Awards for blues group/artist and guitarist of the year, plus the Road to Memphis Blues Challenge in Grafton.

July 18: Streetlife with Warren Wiegratz. The house band for the Milwaukee Bucks, Streetlife plays R&B, smooth jazz and other contemporary styles.

July 25: Trio de Janeiro. A smooth mix of bossanova, Latin, jazz, swing and more.

August 1: The Gleasons. A fusion of Celtic, Irish, pop and other styles of music.

August 8: Southern Tradition blends together elements of rockabilly, southern rock, outlaw/classic country and today's country.

August 15: Tweed Funk. A unique mix of blues, soul, funk, and elements of hip-hop. The Milwaukee quartet is the 2012 WAMI Winner for R&B/Soul Artist of the Year.

August 22: The Flood Brothers. Contemporary oldies, blended electric tunes, with sea level piano and vocals.

August 29: Brew City Big Band. A 22-piece big swing, Lation, polka and waltz band that performs the music of the 30s, 40s and 50s.

The "Summer Sounds" concert series is being organized by the Village Marketing Committee. PNC Bank and Hubbard Park Lodge are the presenting sponsors of "Summer Sounds." Additional sponsors include Barefoot Wine, the Shorewood Foundation, the Shorewood Men's Club and Culver's of Shorewood.
