Shorewood Alum is an "Ironman"

19-year-old Peter Morris recently competed in an Ironman Triathlon in Madison.

Peter Morris was a standout athlete during his time at Shorewood High School.

But now he can say he's an "Ironman."

Morris, who graduated from SHS in 2012, is now a sophomore at UW-LaCrosse, where he runs on the track team. He trained for years with the Shorewood Swim Club and ran cross country and track during his high school years.

Morris told a UW-LaCrosse student newspaper that he has wanted to participate in Ironman since he was eight. Once he reached the age of 18, he signed up and started training like a madman for the triathlon on Sept. 7.

At the end of the day, Morris had swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles and ran a standard 26.2-mile marathon in only 11 hours and 45 minutes.

"There were times where I didn’t want to go on and my body was cramping, but I pushed myself and finished," Morris told the newspaper. "It really taught me that if you dedicate yourself and put your mind to it, you can accomplish something amazing.”

Morris has also qualified for and will be competing at the USAT World Competition to be held in Canada next summer, representing Team USA.
