Greyhounds Edge Greenfield, Win Season Opener

The Shorewood boys basketball team slipped past Greenfield 68-64 to win its first season and Woodland Conference game of the season.

The Greyhounds edged out Greenfield in its season opener Tuesday night.

Shorewood lead 35-26 at halftime and was able to endure a Hawks' 4th quarter surge — outscoring the Greyhounds 13 to 19 — to secure its first season and Woodland Conference win of the year on Greenfield's home court, 68-64.

Andrew Davis drained two three-pointers and led the Greyhounds with 18 points, Donovan Freeman scored 14 and Carmen Purvis picked up 13 points. Greenfield's Rick Santiago was the game's top scorer with 23 points, according to Wissports.net.

Next up, the Greyhounds will travel to conference foe Cudahy on Nov. 27. Shorewood's home opener is Nov. 30 against Brown Deer.

Shorewood had its best season in a decade last year, posting a 11-12 record but losing its first round game in the WIAA playoffs to Brown Deer.
