The rain came in sideways all night, but it didn't seem to bother the Greyhounds Thursday as they cruised to an easy victory over Whitewater and advanced to the sectional finals round of the Division 2 WIAA playoffs.
After running into the Catholic Memorial last year in regionals, Shorewood is just one win away from its first state tournament berth since 2004. That year, the Greyhounds lost in the state championship game.
Thursday night, Shorewood scored early and often. Its first goal came just inside the 4-minute mark, courtesy of midfielder Josh Landers. The Greyhounds ended the first half with three goals, shutting out the Whippets.
Shorewood slipped two more goals past Whitewater in the second half, but and allowed the Whippets' lone goal in the 48th minute.
The Greyhounds had four different players score; defenseman Bobby Kohl scored twice.
Pewaukee will clash with the Greyhounds on Saturday in sectional finals. The game starts at 2 p.m. at Whitewater High School. Shorewood lost its regular game against the Pirates.
