Shorewood Announces Public Art Event for Summer

"I Love Shorewood" theme to engage entire community.

Shorewood is proud to be at the edge of the city and the heart of everything ... and with that in mind, the village announces its 2012 public art event, “I Love Shorewood!”

This summer, “I Love Shorewood” will engage the entire community in the creation of super-size heart forms that will be decorated by local artists.

Thirty-five custom-designed hearts will be on display throughout the Shorewood business district and other landmark community locations from June 16 through Sept. 1.

Artists are currently being solicited through a jurying process to decorate the heart forms, and individual business owners and community groups are invited to sponsor the display of a heart form at their Shorewood location.

Public art projects enrich communities culturally and create a synergy among residents, community groups, businesses and artists.

Shorewood’s 2012 public art project will showcase the shops, restaurants, beautiful business district and village by attracting new visitors/customers to the area throughout the summer months.

Public art exhibits are not new to Shorewood. In 2009 and 2010, the village was proud to present its first two public art events that generated increased traffic and conversation within the community, and established Shorewood as a destination by attracting many new visitors/customers to the business district and the Village as a whole.

This year’s “I Love Shorewood” event will prove to be another exciting opportunity to showcase everything we LOVE about Shorewood!

“I Love Shorewood” is being presented by the Village of Shorewood Marketing Program. Major co-sponsors of the event are the Mandel Group and the Shorewood Foundation.

The Mandel Group, Inc. offers luxury living options throughout the Milwaukee area, and is proud to invest in the future of our community. Of particular note is its new LightHorse 4041 mixed-use apartment community soon to be constructed in Shorewood at North Oakland Avenue and East Kenore Place. LightHorse 4041 will feature 84 apartment homes with luxury, condominium-like finishes, private and public parking and and a new 18,400 sq. ft. Walgreens.

The Shorewood Foundation is a charitable, non-profit group that is the steward of the many generous gifts given to help make Shorewood a great place to live, shop and raise a family. Since 1964, the Foundation has provided a way for Shorewood residents and friends to support the village with their contributions. Proceeds from an end-of-event, public art auction to be held in September will benefit the Foundation.

Additional funding is being provided by the Shorewood Men’s Club
, dedicated to supporting many worthy causes in the Village of Shorewood since 1956. Event logistics are being managed through the Shorewood Department of Public Works.

Individual sponsorships to place a heart in front of, or inside a business, are currently being solicited, as well as local artists to decorate the forms. For more information about how to participate as a sponsor or an artist, please e-mail info@shorewoodtoday.com.
