Summer fun @ the library!

Summer Reading (for pre-readers, readers and teens) has been going on since May 28, but this week we began our summer program schedule.

It was a vibrant week of programs, beginning with two busy Pop in and Play sessions (for kids 6 months to 3 years of age) on Monday. Young ones who came were treated to a range of playful rhymes, songs and games geared towards encouraging early literacy. There will be two more dates to Pop in and Play with us: July 15 and August 12, at 10 a.m. or 6:30 p.m.

Monday was also the first day of our Beneath the Surface photo contest. It's being run on Tumblr - a micro-blogging site - where submissions will be showcased throughout the summer. Winner(s) will have their photos hung in the library. The contest is open for students entering grades 7-12. Check out the contest Tumblr to learn more and enter!

On Tuesday we had our first Terrific Tuesday program. This week's act was Ballet Folkorico Nacional of Milwaukee. Ballet Folklorico brings Mexican culture to life with dance and traditional trick rope work. It was bright, musical and a lot of fun.

Wednesday saw a small group of enthusiastic middle & high schoolers come in for a writing workshop called WriteON. They learned about fiction writing techniques and practiced their skills. Even if you didn't make it to the first session, check out one or both of the next sessions (July 10 & July 31, 3pm) if writing is your thing.

Finally, we wrapped up the week with our most colorful annual event: tie dye! Thankfully we got a sunny day and were able to do the dyeing outside on the library lawn. Hard-working teen volunteers and extra staff help really made the event special.

You don't need to be signed up for Summer Reading to attend events. But if you want to sign up, there is still time!
