UWM Professor Tapped for Open School Board Seat

From a field of nine applicants, the Shorewood School Board selected Paru Shah, citing her knowledge of education public policy and research.

On a vote of 3-1, the Shorewood School Board selected Paru Shah from a field of nine candidates to fill its open seat.

School Board members said they liked Shah’s knowledge of education public policy and her research of the impact of racial/ethnic inequalities on politics at the local level.

The seat became available when Michael Mishlove resigned.

Shah is an assistant professor in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Department of Political Science and was previously a political science professor at Macalester College in Minnesota.

She has served on the board of directors for social services agency Rape Victims Advocates in Chicago and been a member and program director of AmeriCorps.

Shah holds a Ph.D and master's degree in political science from Rice University.

Former School Board President Paul Zovic withdrew his name from consideration Thursday afternoon.

Shah was not available at Thursday night’s meeting.
