SHS Mock Trial Team Eyes State Title

Shorewood has been a regular state participant over the decades winning in 1984 and 2007, and taking second place, three of the last five years. The team will compete Sunday for a chance to advance to the finals on Monday.

A team of Shorewood High School students will compete in Madison Sunday, in hopes of making their case and advancing to the next round at the state mock trial competition semifinals. 

Shorewood has been a regular state participant over the decades winning in 1984 and 2007, and taking second place, three of the last five years. 

The team will compete against 11 other teams in Dane County Circuit Court, for a chance to advance to the finals in the state Supreme Court on Monday. The winners will represent Wisconsin at the National Mock Trial Championship in Indianapolis in May.

Mock trial follows the rules and structure of a real court trial, allowing students to explore a particular legal case, court procedures and etiquette, and perform the case as attorneys and witnesses. Members of the state bar develops a court case each year that high school teams must argue.
