Should Shorewood Schools Have an Athletic Hall of Fame?

Shorewood Athletic Director Bill Haury went before the School Board Tuesday asking that question, and made the case for the launch of a Shorewood High School athletic hall of fame recognizing former notable high school athletes.

The recognizes students and after leaving the district, so why not recognize those who made their mark in athletics?

Shorewood Athletic Director Bill Haury came before the School Board Tuesday night to ask that question, and made the case for a athletic hall of fame.

The hall of fame would recognize former Shorewood athletes, coaches and contributors who have distinguished themselves in sports, and promote continued interest in the district's athletic program, Haury said.

He added he's already gone before the high school booster club, and would use the framework that Homestead High School used in setting up its hall of fame, which Nicolet and Whitefish Bay High Schools also have utilized.

“It’s a tried and true procedure, tweaked a little bit,” he said.

Haury said he would serve as chairman on a selection committee, along with a current high school coach, teacher and student, a School Board member and two community members.

He added once he received direction from school officials, he would take it back to the high school booster club.

“We’re looking at possibly April 1, 2013, as our inaugural year,” he said.

If given the go-ahead, a hall of fame would be placed in the Shorewood High School Arena, Haury said.
