Shorewood Class of 2013 Ready for Next Chapter

Shorewood High School seniors said their goodbyes in a commencement ceremony Thursday night.

Thirteen is not normally considered a lucky number.

But in his commencement speech Thursday night, Shorewood High School Senior Class President Charlie Koczela said the Class of 2013 was known as "the Lucky 13's."

And with good reason.

In the last school year, Shorewood was named U.S. News and World Report's top Wisconsin high school, won three state athletic titles, raised a record $56,000 for the MACC Fund and became the first high school in the nation to tackle the controversial play Spring Awakening.

About 170 students received their diploma from Superintendent Martin Lexmond and Principal Matthew Joynt at the school's commencement ceremony Thursday night. Ninety percent of those students plan to continue their education at college.
