Shorewood And Whitefish Bay Swimmers Snag Sectionals

A number of the swimmers placed first and moved on to compete in the state meet this weekend.

The Shorewood boys swim team continued its reign over southeastern Wisconsin by winning the WIAA sectional this past weekend at Cudahy High School.

They captured first place with 360 points, just in front of the Whitefish Bay team, which earned 347 points. Indian Trail High School placed sixth with a score of 191.

Winning a championship and qualifying for the state meet for Shorewood was freshman Michael Perry, who earned first place in the 100-yard butterfly event. Perry and his teammates senior Philip Clausen, and juniors Suhith Bayana and Kirill Korolev also placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Also qualifying for the state meet for Shorewood were junior Kirill Korolev, who placed second in the boys 200-yard freestyle event, and senior Philip Clausen earned second place in the boys 100-yard butterfly event. 

Whitefish Bay senior Joe Kaszubowski will also be headed to compete at the state meet after he earned a first place in Diving. Senior Ethan Bott also earned a first place in the 100-yard Backstroke. He and his teammates sophomore Noah Oldson, junior Curt Walther, and senior Ethan Nikolau also won first place in the 200-yard Medley relay.

Sophomore Oldson, junior Joey McMahon, and seniors Nikolau and Bott won the 400-yard Free relay.

Also qualifying for the state meet were junior Luke Henricks in diving, Bott in the 200-yard individual medley, Nickolau in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, and Oldson in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.

The WIAA Division 1 State Meet is Saturday in Madison. The State Meet is on Friday at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium. Diving at 2:30 p.m. followed by swimming at 6:30 p.m.
