School District Once Again Searching for Business Manager

Marc Duff decided to stay at Racine Unified School District after receiving an offer for a deputy chief financial officer position.

The Shorewood School District is once again searching for a business manager.

The Shorewood School Board recently gave the green light for the school district to enter into a contract with Marc Duff for the position. Duff is a former Republican lawmaker who has worked for the Racine Unified School District in recnet years as a budget manager and financial analyst.

During contract discussions in Shorewood, Duff received an offer to return to the Racine Unified School District as a deputy chief financial officer – which led him to turn down Shorewood's offer and stay in Racine.

“Marc and I spoke at length and it became clear that accepting the opportunity in Racine was in his best professional interest,” Shorewood Superintendent Marty Lexmond said. “That role will position him well to become the Chief Financial Officer in Racine in the future, and also allows him the best opportunity to work on behalf of students in poverty, which is one of the reasons he committed to the work in public schools.”

The search for a permanent business manager will now continue in Shorewood. The district has received additional applications for the position, and they are now under review, Lexmond said. Once a group of qualified applicants are identified, an interview panel will be convened to conduct interviews and make a recommendation.

Until then, the District will continue with either contracted or interim business manager services and plans to work with current interim business manager Erik Kass to develop a plan for the future.
