Shorewood High School students showed their school spirit in a parade around the village Friday afternoon.

After the game, the school's football team played Kenosha Christian Life High School. Although Kenosha Christian Life's varsity football team forfeited the game to the Messmer/Shorewood co-op team, the two teams played each other with its underclassmen.

“Kenosha Christian has a depleted roster, and expressed concerns about its
remaining players, most of whom are underclassman. Rather than canceling
the game completely, however, their team will still travel to Shorewood, where they will take on an abbreviated Messmer/Shorewood roster with primarily underclassmen and limited players from the junior class,” Shorewood Athletic Director LeVar Ridgeway said. “Even though it’s Shorewood’s homecoming game, our upperclassmen have been extremely understanding throughout this entire situation and believe this is what is best for the football program and both schools in  the co-op.”

Messmer/Shorewood juniors and seniors will be coaching the underclassmen for the game. The players who will be coaching include: seniors Joey Palmisano and Matt Smith and junior Riley Sellinger will be coaching the linebackers; senior Nate Visor, coaching the left tackles; senior Jekim Joes, coaching the two-backs; junior Deonte Newson, coaching the cornerbacks; senior Taylor Dennis will serve as the team’s offensive coordinator; junior Ray Pierce, coaching the cornerbacks; senior Quinton Coby will coach the defensive backs; senior Mike Hendrix, coaching the four-backs; senior Rodney Neely will be the team’s defensive coordinator; senior Deniko Montgomery, coaching safeties; junior Andre Brown, coaching three-backs; senior Lasavvunta Moreland will coach the defensive line; senior Tywan Ramsey will coach the defensive ends; senior Quintin Thomas, coaching the offensive line; Mike Fazio, a senior, will coach the wide receivers; senior Jonathon Carson, coaching the tight ends and senior Patrick Holliman will coach the defensive tackles. The team’s General Manager will be senior Mykyo Evans and the Director of Player Personnel will be senior Quinton Coby.

“It is an unfortunate situation for all parties involved, but we still will be able to recognize our seniors in front of their families and friends before the game, and with a special ceremony at halftime,” Ridgeway said.

The remainder of the team’s games expected to go on as scheduled. With the forfeit, Messmer/Shorewood has a record of 5-2, and has qualified for WIAA playoffs for the third straight season.
