Local Educators Fill School Steps to Protest Governor's Budget

Teachers stand up against Scott Walker's budget repair bill Monday at Lake Bluff Elementary.

"The effects as we know it would be devastating," Sachin Pandya, a Lake Bluff Elementary School teacher, said as he led a teachers rally Monday against Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill.

Pandya handed out buttons reading "Love your teachers? Support their union!" and quietly protested with around 30 Shorewood teachers against a bill to be voted on Thursday which would eliminate many collective bargaining rights of public union workers, including teachers.

He urged teachers to call their legislators and tell them to oppose the controversial bill, while another teacher said the measure is aimed at eliminating public worker unions.
