Lake Bluff to Get Playground Improvements over Summer

The approximately $500,000 project includes two softball fields and a youth soccer field.

Playground renovations at will start July 5 and wrap up in early fall.

The Shorewood School Board last week approved the approximately $493,000 project and a contract with New Berlin-based contractor, Western Contractors,  to revamp the school’s field.

Western Contractors will install new fencing, construct two softball fields, one youth soccer field and do some minor electrical work for lighting. Superintendent Blane McCann said rainfall often leaves the fields usable and that the new construction will address the issue with a drainage system.

The work will wrap up no later than Sept. 1, McCann said, but the fields won’t be usable much of the fall. The district didn't elect for an option for additional fencing, which would have added more than $30,000 to the project.

An initial proposal for Lake Bluff playground improvements included new tennis courts and a community building. The courts and building would have added  $70,000 to $100,000 to the construction costs.
