Lake Bluff Rummage Sale Slated for This Weekend

Lake Bluff PTO's annual sale is Friday and Saturday, with children's clothing, books and movies available, and proceeds going back into the school.

’s annual rummage sale, chock full of kids' items, including clothing for newborns to sixth graders and books and movies rated PG-13 and under, is slated for Friday and Saturday.

Kathy Yanoff, sale organizer and Lake Bluff Parent Teacher Organization member, says Lake Bluff teachers get first stab at the rummage, particularly for items they can use in the classroom. Yanoff said the fundraising event is a way to provide teachers with the extra things they need to enhance the educational experience in their classrooms.

Lake Bluff and Atwater families get the second shot to shop, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Then, the big sale is on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon in the Lake Bluff cafeteria, 1600 E. Lake Bluff Blvd. The best stuff is sold early, Yanoff said, but customers who stick around until 11 a.m. are rewarded — $3 for anything you can fit into a grocery bag.

Past sales have earned over $25,000 for the Lake Bluff PTO.

Yanoff said the PTO loves the rummage sale because it is unlike any other fundraiser.

"No middleman takes a cut of the profits," she said.

She added it’s important to teach children to be generous by giving away whatever they truly don’t need.

“Everyone enjoys seeing great stuff find a new home, whether within our neighborhood or out in the greater community,” she said.

Items that aren’t sold at the rummage sale are passed along to local charities including Children's Hospital, La Causa, Ladies of Charity, Milwaukee County Foster Care, Family Life Center of Saint Stephen and the Salvation Army.
