Have You Seen This?: Shorewood Shines on YouTube

A community rich in the arts celebrates music and drama on the popular video upload site, along with Memorial Day, a stray turkey and the high school's renovated bowling lanes.

Shorewood is such a diverse community, and more and more of what happens here is being captured on video by amateurs and professionals alike. Take a look at some of what’s been going on with your friends and neighbors as we search for Shorewood on YouTube:

Shorewood hosts an excellent commemoration of Memorial Day along the Lake Michigan shore, and user OverMilwaukee captured an excellent video of the songs and speeches from the day.

Also visiting Atwater Park was thefossilhuntermatt, who uncovered some interesting rock on the beach and explained the history.

For a different look at nature in Shorewood, user DukeDean provided video of a wild turkey strolling around the intersection of Menlo and Summit. He called it Lindsey Lohan and, appropriately, struggled to get its cooperation.

Remember when bowling was one of the most popular sports on television? Well if you’d like to spend about 90 minutes watching it on the web, catch the Spare Time Top Gun Finals, featuring top high school bowlers from southeast Wisconsin. It’s notable here only because it’s contested at the .

But if Shorewood is known for anything, it’s arts, not bowling. And there’s plenty to watch out there on YouTube.

First up are the Shorewood Intermediate School seventh- and eighth-grade choirs, performing at the Music in the Parks in St. Louis. User rtsuch uploaded not one, not two, but three performances.

Then travel to Italy with the Shorewood High School Orchestra. User JoelDresang captured both music and sightseeing, while lalithamurali94 videoed this and other performances. More links are attached to this article.

Back at home, user nobanjono shared a duet around a fire pit with David Brown on guitar and Joe McNally on the five-string banjo, performing Phil’s Jig.

Finally, legendary Shorewood High School theatre director Barb Gensler was feted upon her retirement from the school and user MitchLackey provided a video of the ceremony.
