Greyhound Roundup: Golf Team Captures Victory at Conference Mini Meet

Here is a roundup of Shorewood High School sports courtesy of Athletic Director Bill Haury:

Girl’s Softball – Monday, the teams played only the second game of the season, the first conference game against a very strong Whitnall team. While the game ended in five innings with Whitnall winning 14-1, an important statistic was that the Shorewood girls had no errors. The Whitnall team generated its own offense off strong hitting. There were no big innings for the Falcons, as they had to produce each run with hitting and not off Shorewood mistakes. Meredith Behm gave the team its lone run as she went 1-2 with a double that scored the Shorewood run. Cindy Schuelke pitched two innings and Celeste Carroll pitched three.

Golf – On Tuesday, at Grant Park, the boys won the Woodland Conference East mini meet with a total of 171. It was a great day, despite the rain that they played through.  Bobby Kohl led the team with a round of 40, James Wakley shot 41, Cameron Duncan shot 43, Brian Morris shot 47, and Josh Kather shot 49. This is the first mini meet victory for the golf team over 10 years. 

Boy’s Tennis – On Thursday, the varsity team beat Cudahy 6-1 in a Woodland Conference dual match. Tim Perry won at No. 1 Singles, 6-0, 6-0, as did Sean Kelly at No. 2 Singles. Allen Kang won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 Singles and Tommy Chamberlain won at No. 4 Singles, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Ethan Halloran & Peter Velikanov won at No. 1 Doubles, 6-1, 6-1, Grant Kleaveland-Kupczak & Seung-Hyun Jim won at No. 3 Doubles, 6-0, 6-1.

On Saturday, the varsity team participated in the University School Invite. They lost 0-6 to USM, but defeated Appleton Xavier, 7-0, and lost a close match to Madison Edgewood, 3-4. Tim Perry won in both matches, 6-1, 6-1 against Madison Edgewood at No. 1 Singles, and 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 against Appleton Xavier; Sean Kelly won 6-2, 6-0 against Appleton Xavier at No. 2 Singles; Allen Kang won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 Singles; Sasha Velikanov won 6-0, 6-1 against Appleton Xavier at No. 4 Singles; Ethan Halloran & Grant Kleveland-Kupczak wo0n 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 Doubles; Ben Kuhlmann & James Keane won 6-0, 6-0 vs. Madison Edgewood & 6-1, 6-4 against Appleton Xavier at No. 2 Doubles; Ben Wasserman & Seung-Hyun Jin won 6-3, 7-6 against Appleton Xavier at No. 3 Doubles; and Grant Klevelasnd-Kupczak & Ben Wassermann won 3-6, 7-6, 6-0 against Madison Edgewood at No. 3 Doubles.

Girl’s Soccer – The teams were rained out on Tuesday, but on Thursday played New Berlin Eisenhower under sunny skies and warmer temperatures. The game was an exciting, up and down the field affair with Shorewood having more time of possession and offensive pressure. While outshooting the Lions 10-5, the Greyhounds couldn’t put the ball past the Eisenhower goalkeeper and after 80 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime the game ended in a 0-0 tie. The varsity team remains undefeated in Woodland Conference play with a record of 2-0-1.
