Greyhound Swimmers Second in Sectional; Turn Eyes to State Meet

With two event victories and a bundle of strong finishes, Shorewood's girls swim team finished second on Saturday in the WIAA Division 2 sectional at Plymouth and heads into this weekend's state meet with a series of high seeds.

The Greyhounds scored 318 points, just 14 behind host Plymouth.

Friday's state meet at the UW-Natatorium begins at 2:30 p.m. with diving. Swimming events follow at 6:30 p.m. If you can't attend in person, every event will be streamed live online by Fox Sports Wisconsin.

Kristin Malone is seeded first in the 100 freestyle after capturing the sectional in 52.74 seconds. Malone was fourth in this event last year at state. She also is the No. 2 seed in the 50 freestyle, in which she was third last year. In 2011, Malone was second in the sectional in 24.28, behind Grafton freshman Samantha Senczyszyn.

The Greyhounds' 200 medley relay team also is seeded second. They were runner-up in Saturday's sectional to Plymouth in 1:51.09. Team members are Malone, Ellen Stello, Rachel Munson and Melissa Clausen.

Munson was Shorewood's other event winner at the sectional, taking the 200 individual medley in 2:12.70 She's seeded seventh at state, and teammate Stello, the sectional runner-up, is seeded eighth.

Stello is the sixth seed in the 500 freestyle after taking third at the sectional in 5:16.06. Stello was second in this event at state last year in 5:04.78.

In last year's team event, Shorewood was seventh with 122.5 points. Milton is the defending champion and is seeded first in four events this year.
