Boys get important victory over a good Brown Deer team.

Here is this week's roundup of Shorewood High School sports, courtesy of Athletic Director Bill Haury:

Girls Basketball – The girls got back on the winning track with a victory at Brown Deer.  The first quarter was close with the Falcons taking an early lead 10-8.  After that, the Greyhounds took control with a 17-7 second quarter, taking a 25-17 lead into halftime.  They maintained their momentum with an 18-7 third quarter, and that was all they needed as they coasted to a 50-43 victory.  Robbie Holland led all scorers with 18 points, Margaret O’Brien added 12, Johnna Odom had 10, Aisling Moloney had 6 points, Ashly Eimers had 3, and Maura Curtis scored 1 point.

Friday night, the girls hosted Pewaukee and against the height, pressure defense, and fast break offense, they came away with 74-23 loss.  Robbie Holland led the team scoring 6 points, Maura Curtis had 5, Grace Hayes had 4, Aisling Moloney scored 3, Ashley Eiemers 2, and Johnna Odom added 1 point.  In spite of the lopsided loss, the girls showed their toughness and determination throughout the game.  This attitude and effort will reap rewards in the years to come as the girls mature as a team.

Saturday, the girls traveled to University School and rebounded from Friday’s tough loss with a come from behind 41-36 overtime victory.   University School jumped out to an early 18-4 first-quarter lead with accurate 3-point shooting.   The Greyhounds cut the lead to 10 at halftime with a 10-6 second quarter.  The third quarter was a defensive battle with the Shorewood girls trimming 3 points off the Wildcat lead.  A 14-7 fourth quarter had Shorewood leading by 2 with under a minute to play.  The Wildcats drove the length of the court and scored a basket to send the game into overtime.  The momentum was with the Greyhounds and they went 7-2 in the overtime period to earn the non-conference win.  They are now 3-8 in conference play, and 4-10 overall.  Robbie Holland led the team with 11 points, Ashley Eimers added 8 points, Grace Hayes and Maura Curtis both scored 5 points, while Abby Pech, Aisling Moloney, and Johnna Odom each scored 4 points.

Boy’s Basketball – The varsity boys earned a breakthrough victory Tuesday night, defeating Brown Deer, who at the time was sitting in second place in the division at 10-3.  The Greyhounds played strong throughout the game, going toe-to-toe with the Falcons offensively and playing their best defense of the season.   The first quarter was an offensive battle with Brown Deer taking a 20-18 lead.  Shorewood kept playing hard and went into halftime only down by 3 points, 37-34.  They stormed out in the third quarter, outscoring the Falcons 20-13 to take 4 point lead into the fourth quarter.  Bobby Kohl led the team defensively with 14 rebounds that stopped a good number of Brown Deer’s scoring chances.  The boys could feel a victory was within reach and played the fourth quarter that way.  They extended their lead by outscoring Brown Deer 19-15 to come away with a convincing 73-65 conference victory.  Deion Jackson-Body led all scorers with 29 points, Aaron Bailey scored 15, Donovan Freeman had 13, Kejuan Glosson & Carmen Purvis each scored 6, and Bobby Kohl added 4 points.
