Artists Team Up in Support of Shorewood's Orchestra Program

Eleven local artists create works of art from old violins, which will be auctioned off as a fundraising effort to benefit the Shorewood High School orchestra.

Eleven Shorewood and Wisconsin area artists have teamed up and created works of art from old violins to benefit the Shorewood orchestra program.

Each violin is a unique piece of artwork that combines various elements of music and fine art.

The violins are displayed at eleven Shorewood businesses, where interested buyers can begin the bidding process before the fundraising effort calimnates on Feb. 29 with a live auction at , 3565 N. Morris Blvd.

Decorating the old violins was the brainchild of Karen Frink, Shorewood High School orchestra conductor, who will supervise a musical themed field trip for her high school orchestra students to Italy in the spring of 2012.

“In addition to performing concerts throughout Italy, students will see the musical, artistic, and historic highlights of Venice, Florence, and Rome," she said. "In my experience, students learn and grow so much on this type of trip, and they always return home with exciting discoveries, new insights, and wonderful memories. I look forward to sharing this unforgettable travel opportunity with the students."
