Anthony Strancke Resigns From Shorewood Schools

Strancke, who serves as principal of Shorewood Intermediate School and the district's special education director, is resigning to spend more time with his family.

Anthony Strancke will resign at the end of June from his role as the principal of Shorewood Intermediate School and the director of special education.

In a resignation letter to the district, Strancke said he would like to spend more time with his wife and two young children, while further pursuing his education. His resignation is effective June 30.

“We only have one chance to see our precious children grow up, so I am sure you understand my desire to spend more time with my family,” Strancke wrote in the letter.

Strancke has worked in the district for six years. During his time as director of special education, the Shorewood transition program – designed to give real-world work experience to special education students – has expanded greatly, and now has partnerships with 16 local businesses, according to a school district news release.

At SIS, he worked to develop a new schedule structure that will allow teachers to better serve all of the school’s students, from those that need extra help to those that are advanced learners. Strancke also worked to strengthen character education at the school, and strived to break down the social barriers leading to student isolation, according to a school district news release.

Under Strancke’s guidance, SIS was named a Mix it Up Model School for its efforts to foster respect and understand among all students.

“Anthony, and the entire District, can be proud of all of the work he has done for Shorewood during his time here,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Lexmond said. “He is an excellent employee, and we will miss him greatly, but wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

The school district administration is recommending that the School Board divide the SIS Principal role and Director of Special Education role into two separate positions. The formal recommendation will be made at the board’s next meeting on Tuesday. If approved, Lexmond said he expects staff, parents and community members to be involved throughout the hiring process for each role.
