3 Teachers to Join Shorewood Next Year; Search for New Administrator, Aides OK'd

Shorewood schools will welcome three new teachers to its classrooms next year with officials approving their hires Tuesday night.

The School Board also gave the go-ahead to begin locating candidates for numerous other teaching and administrative positions.

The hires include new math teacher Steven Andris, family and consumer education teacher Heather Clancy — both at the high school — and district theater teacher Joe King.

King will take over Shorewood's renowned theater department in the wake of .

Officials gave the OK to start the search process for several other positions, including:

• Full-time director of instruction
• Full-time high school campus supervisor aide
• Full-time high school academic laboratory aide
• Part-time elementary orchestra teacher
• Two full-time high school teachers
• Full-time sixth-grade teacher
• Two full-time K5 instructional aides

A preliminary budget called for a salary of $110,000 salary and $35,700 benefits package for the director of instruction position, $32,869 for a campus supervisor aide and tutor hall aide and $53,390 to add staff for the district’s growing orchestra program.

Several principals currently share the role of director of instruction.

The board had to pass a resolution supporting the search process for these positions because the .

Not approved Tuesday were searches for two other proposed positions included in the delayed preliminary budget — a full-time development/marketing director at a cost of $75,000, and a computer technician at $70,000.

The retirement of special education teacher Sandy Strande was also approved. from Shorewood earlier this year. .

Shorewood expects to save $257,615, not including Strande's retirement, due to staff turnover.
