Millionaire Mary Burke: Would Take Wisconsin Backward

[Madison, Wis.] – Madison Millionaire Mary Burke announced her candidacy for Governor yesterday, but here’s what she didn’t tell Wisconsin: Burke is another tax-and-spend liberal who wants to go back to the disastrous policies of the past that she helped craft in the Doyle Administration:

  • Burke voted to increase taxes by the maximum amount under state law by voting to approve the 2012-2013 Madison Municipal School District Final Budget on October 29, 2012.
    • Rather than work to make government more efficient, she voted to raise taxes and increase spending. She would do the same as Governor – and we’ve come too far to go backward now.

  • Burke’s track record shows that it will be the taxpayers who suffer from her tax-and-spend priorities.
    • Her candidacy would solidify an embrace of the failed policies of the past that include massive job loss, high unemployment, and billion dollar budget deficits.
  • Burke was a central figure in the failed Doyle Administration – where a $3.6 billion budget deficit was created and over 130,000 jobs were lost in his second term – a mess that was fixed by Scott Walker and Republicans.[1]
    • We’ve already seen Burke’s leadership in action – and we can’t afford any more of it. Wisconsin is moving in the right direction under Governor Walker and Republicans – and Burke would only take us backward.
  • At the end of Doyle’s second term, only 10% of employers thought Wisconsin was heading in the right direction. Today, employer confidence stands at 94%.1

Burke is simply more of the same: just another tax-and-spend liberal with a record of supporting tax hikes and policies that would take Wisconsin backward.
