What's Up This Week in Shorewood? School District Starts Budget Process, SNL's Seth Meyers in the North Shore

Here's a look at what's coming up this week in Shorewood. If we're missing something, you can add it to the calendar.

Regular Village Board meeting — Officials will meet Tuesday night at 7:30, where they are expected to discuss awarding a $117,285 contract to software company BS&A Software for the purchase of new software. The last time Shorewood’s software was updated was 1992.

Additionally, village officials will discuss appointing new members to the Business Improvement District Board and conduct a review and evaluation of Village Manager Chris Swartz in closed session.

The meeting is held at , 3930 N. Murray Ave., in the court room.

K-4 registration is Tuesday — Junior kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year in the Shorewood School District is slated for Tuesday at 6 p.m. Parents will need to bring an original birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency. The district accepts copies of rental leases or tax bills as the only type of residency proof, in addition to an original utility bill. Registration occurs at , 1600 E. Lake Bluff Blvd., or , 2100 E. Capitol Dr., depending on where you live in the Shorewood. Children must be four years of age by Sept. 1 to qualify for junior kindergarten.

If parents are unable register their children on Jan. 17, but plan to have their child attend the Shorewood schools kindergarten program, they should call the office at 963-6962 (Atwater) and 963-6972 (Lake Bluff).

School district starts budget process — With the new year comes a new budget process for the . The district is holding a budget town hall meeting 7 p.m. on Thursday in the , 1701 E. Capitol Dr. Business Manager Mark Boehlke will explain the 2012-2013 budget building process and solicit resident input regarding priorities.

Join the Shorewood Public Library book club — The club is open to the public and meets in the conference room, 3920 N. Murray Ave., at 10 a.m. on Thursday. Go here to view the book selections.

SNL's Seth Meyers is coming to the North Shore — Seth Meyers from Saturday Night Live will be at the Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd., on Saturday, for the Laugh It Up Milwaukee is a FUNdraiser, benefitting the JCC and Gilda’s Club SE Wisconsin, an affiliate of Cancer Support Community.

Preps sports — The Shorewood boys basketball team will try to bounce back from two loses, after winning four in a row, when they host a match Tuesday night against Brown Deer and travel to Pewaukee for a game Friday night. The Greyhounds are 6-6 (3-6) on the season.

The girls basketball squad travel to Brown Deer Tuesday and play Pewaukee at home on Friday. They are 2-9 (2-7) this season.

All games start at 7:30 p.m. and home games are played at , 1701 E. Capitol Dr.

The Whitefish Bay-Shorewood-Nicolet combined hockey team is slated for matches with Oregon on Friday and Pacelli on Saturday. Friday's match starts at 6 p.m. The Storm play at the Kern Center in downtown Milwaukee, 1245 N. Broadway St.
