Village to Use Touch Screen Voter Ballots

Cast your vote in style for the April 5 election.

Voters will be able to cast their ballot in style, April 5, as the village will offer touch screen voting booths at its three polling stations.

Village Clerk Sherry Grant said this is the third or fourth year Shorewood has used the technology-based ballots, which are required by law under the American with Disabilities Act, and it seemed like voters were afraid to use them, and didn’t’ see a lot of use last year.

“There’s not way to over vote,” Grant said. “It is almost fool proof.”

Instead of drawing a straight line to the candidate you want to choose, voters will simply touch a circle next to their chosen candidate.

“It is simpler than using self-checkout machines at the grocery store,” the village website says.

The machines are equipped with an audio function, for vision-impaired voters.

Paper ballots will still be available for those that like the traditional way of voting.
