Trustee Nation Seeking Re-election Come Spring

Incumbent says he's pursuing another term to continue working on sewer, funding issues in the village.

Shorewood Trustee Thad Nation said Thursday he will seek re-election to the Village Board in the spring election.

Nation, who is a former aide to former Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle, was appointed to his current seat by trustees in June after former Trustee .

A four-year Shorewood resident with four children, Nation, 38, says he wants to make sure Shorewood is moving expeditiously on sewer repairs and hopes to help the village navigate through new challenges as a result of significant cuts in state aid.

“I want to make sure Shorewood is moving as quickly as possible but also making sure that the taxpayers are protected through that process,” Nation said.

“There also additional issues as we continue to struggle with (funding) cuts from state government. I’m very interested in making our government more efficient.”

Nation also served as the press secretary for former Indiana Gov. Frank O'Bannon before joining the Doyle administration. He runs a public relations firm, Nation Consulting, which he founded about nine years ago.

He earned a bachelors degree from the University of Notre Dame where he studied government, history and education. Nation is also a certified educator in Indiana.

The general election is set for April 3. If more than four people file to run for the two available trustee seats, then a primary would be held Feb. 21. The trustee post is a three-year term with a $1,000 annual salary.

More incumbents are ready to go

Voters also will choose a village president, another village trustee, a municipal judge and one school board member .

and Trustee Jeff Hanewall told ShorewoodNOW he plans to run again in April. However, so far, no other non-incumbent candidates have surfaced for the open seats.  

Municipal Judge Donald Demet has also said he plans to seek re-election. The judge post is a three-year term with a $5,000 annual salary.

School Board President Paul Zovic said he's still mulling whether to file papers for re-election.
