Stay with Patch for Complete Coverage on Local Impact of State Budget

With editors here and in Madison, we'll let you know how Walker's plan could affect you.

Whether you're a teacher, a DPW employee or a typical taxpayer, there is no question that the state budget being proposed by Gov. Scott Walker today is going to affect your life in some way.

We don't have the details of Walker's budget proposal yet, but we do know that it calls for reducing state aid to schools and local government significantly - and that will have ramifications throughout the state for years to come.

That's why Patch sent a team of editors to the Capitol today to not only cover Walker's budget address at 4 p.m., but also to talk to state legislators and others about what the budget will mean to the communities we serve.

Here's what we're planning today:

  • Editor Carl Engelking will be tweeting live before, during and after Walker's budget address to provide real-time coverage of what's going on in Madison. You can follow him at twitter.com/SEWisconsnPatch.
  • Editor Jim Price has been at the Capitol since this morning and will file a story that sets the scene for what's happening today.
  • Engelking, Price and Editor Denise Lockwood will talk to state lawmakers from throughout southeastern Wisconsin - Democrats and Republicans - and get their take on the budget address.
  • We'll also be posting videos and photos from Madison throughout the day.

But Patch's coverage of the budget doesn't end tonight - not by a long shot.

As Walker's biennial budget and the controversial budget repair bill continue to be debated and work their way through the Legislature, Patch will continue to delve into how the budget will affect the communities we cover - and what it will mean to you.

We'll be talking to school and municipal officials, business leaders and residents to see what they think about what the governor is proposing for the next two years.

And we're always interested in what you have to say about this issue. Feel free to post a comment in the comment box below or send an e-mail to milwaukee@patch.com.
